about

County Durham singer-songwriter Scott Michael Cavagan is set to release his debut solo EP, Neon Lights, at the end of the month.

The four-track EP, which is influenced by the music Scott listened to when he formed his first band back in 1998, will be released on Iniquity Records on November 30.

Neon Lights was written and performed entirely by Scott apart from drums which were performed by Ollie Rillands,(Laconia/Vegas Baby) and was produced and mixed by Richard Trubridge at Tru Studios.

Scott said: “I wanted to revisit the bands that had originally influenced me to form a band so many years ago and recapture that feeling when I wrote and recorded for the first time, I’m really proud of this EP and look forward to performing the songs live.”

He was the founding member and lead vocalist of Newcastle-based rock band Laconia and during a 10-year period the band toured across the UK and were featured by publications such as Kerrang, Rocksound and Metal Hammer.

In 2009 Scott was asked to join metal band Dryll formed by metal legend Jeff Mantas, formally of the band Venom, which led to an inspirational meeting with Metallica. The band released the Digital Surgery EP and received airplay from Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson who claimed Scott had a ‘versatile set of chops’.

Laconia reformed and released the self-financed Reflection or Denial EP to high acclaim, the band continued to play shows throughout the region before embarking on a hiatus in 2012.

Scott began writing new material in 2013, but at that stage there were no plans to form a new band and certainly no plans for a solo project however, with the encouragement of friends and family he played his first solo show later that year and quickly realised how much he missed performing live.
